August Rush
It’s August 23rd and the Cleveland Guardians are in 1st place in the AL Central. They are currently on the West Coast for a 6-game road trip. Going into Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres, the Guardians hold a 2-game lead in their division.
This young Guardians squad makes me think of the Helm’s Deep defense in the the movie ‘The Two Towers’. Let’s hope they last the night. If you aren’t a Lord of the Rings fan, finish reading this article and then go watch all of them.
A September to remember
In September, the Guardians have 2 scheduled days off, September 8th & 26th. Originally, there was a 3rd day off day on the 15th, however, Cleveland announced that they’d make up the recent rainout against the Chicago White Sox on that day. That is a lot of baseball.
In September, Cleveland plays the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins quite a bit. The Guardians play the White Sox 4 times & the Twins 8 times. 5 of those 8 Twins games are luckily in Cleveland at Progressive Field.
After that comes a 3-game visit to the south side of Chicago to end their season series against the White Sox.
Due to the fact that Minnesota and the Chicago White Sox currently occupy 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the division, this 8 game stretch will be enormous for all those teams.
The End is Nigh
Guardians also finish the regular season in early October with another AL Central team, the Kansas City Royals. This should be dramatic.
