S.H.I.N.E. Showers Cleveland’s Youth with Self-Care and Smiles

On Tuesday, February 7th – the Mary McLeod Bethune Middle School in Cleveland was buzzing with excitement as the S.H.I.N.E. Mentorship Program made a special visit. Led by Danita Harris, WEWS NewsChannel 5 anchorwoman and Emmy-Award-winning journalist, and former Browns star wide receiver Josh Cribbs, the S.H.I.N.E. Girlz and Boyz program aims to guide and support young students on their path to becoming confident and successful individuals.

The theme of the day was self-care, and the students received a dose of TLC in the form of:

  • The girls received a beauty lesson from a skin care expert and a bag of top-notch beauty products to take home.
  • The boys received fresh haircuts from the talented staff at Gentlemen’s Cave Luxury Barber Lounge. Owner Lozell Siler stated, “We want these young men to dream big and realize that through self-love, self-care, belief, discipline, and hard work, you can make these dreams a reality. Be the change you want to see.”

The S.H.I.N.E. Mentorship Program provides a supportive and encouraging environment for students to learn, grow, and develop their skills. The Shine Boyz program is a 16-week group-based mentoring program for young males in grades 4th to 8th, while the Shine Girlz program is a 6-week skill-building and prevention program for girls. The curriculums are tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of the students, and the programs are offered in various settings such as schools, churches, detention centers, and community centers.

The partnership with Gentlemen’s Cave Luxury Barber Lounge added an extra layer of care and attention to the event, and the room was filled with big smiles. This type of experience helps young students develop important life skills and build self-confidence, crucial for their future success.

In conclusion, we are grateful for the individuals behind the S.H.I.N.E. Mentorship Program and their efforts to make a difference in Cleveland. To learn more about S.H.I.N.E. and how you can get involved, click here. Let’s make a difference together!
