Cleveland’s Streets Come Alive with Music for the Cleveland International Piano Competition’s 50th Anniversary
In celebration of the Cleveland International Piano Competition’s (CIPC) 50th anniversary, Piano Cleveland has adorned the city with six golden pianos in some of Cleveland’s most iconic and unexpected locations. This musical initiative, titled “50 Days of CIPC,” leads up to the competition’s grand finale—the Final Concerto Round with The Cleveland Orchestra. Thanks to KeyBank’s generous sponsorship, these golden pianos will host weekly pop-up concerts, transforming everyday spaces into vibrant concert venues.
Marissa Moore, Executive Director of Piano Cleveland, shared her enthusiasm: “We’ve seen the transformative power of music with similar projects in 2013 and 2021. Bringing piano music out of the concert hall and into the city allows everyone to experience its magic.”
Pop-Up Concerts and Public Performances
To celebrate this golden milestone, Piano Cleveland is organizing 30-45 minute pop-up concerts featuring local pianists at each golden piano site. These performances invite everyone to experience live music in the heart of the city. When the pianos aren’t being used for scheduled concerts, Piano Cleveland encourages pianists of all levels to play and share their performances using the hashtag #PianosInTheCity.
Golden Piano Locations and Performance Times:
- Cleveland City Hall: Thursdays at noon
- Playhouse Square’s Connor Palace: Fridays at 6 PM
- Tower City (outside The Eatery): Thursday, July 18 at noon
- Market Hall at Van Aken District: Sundays at 9 AM
- Pivot Center: Sundays starting July 14 at 1 PM

A Citywide Musical Celebration
This golden piano initiative not only celebrates the CIPC’s 50th anniversary but also underscores Piano Cleveland’s mission to make music accessible to all. By placing these pianos in nontraditional spaces, Piano Cleveland brings music into the daily lives of Clevelanders, transforming mundane moments into memorable musical experiences.
