Please join us to welcome Bill as he arrives in Cleveland on Day 3 of his 8 day ride from Columbus, OH to Southfield, MI. Bill has been biking to raise awareness of the obesity epidemic and to fundraise for the Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America (WLSFA) since 2015. The Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America is a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for WLS grants for people – referred to WLS by a surgeon, but who have neither the personal finances nor insurance coverage to pay for it (
www.wlsfa.org).
This is his first year back after a 2-year COVID induced hiatus. In 2010 (at age 54), weighing in at 404 lbs, Bill took control of his life and his health by undergoing a roux en y gastric bypass procedure. Not only has he lost more than 200 lbs, but he has reversed health problems including diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Further, at age 66, he has returned to the active lifestyle of his youth, including this yearly fundraiser bike ride that spans multiple days, states, and hundreds of miles.
We are honored to host a meet and greet for Bill in Cleveland on this year’s Tour of Hope – Bike to Defeat Obesity. We welcome bike and fitness enthusiasts, past and future bariatric patients, and those who appreciate the inspiration of Bill’s journey to join the UH Bariatrics Team for a happy hour celebration of Bill’s progress.
