A Guide to Cleveland’s Most Iconic Statues

Cleveland, Ohio is home to some of the most iconic and meaningful statues in the country. If you’re looking to appreciate art and history, these three statues are a must-see: the Guardians of Traffic statue, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and the Fountain of Eternal Youth.

  1. The Gaurdians of Traffic statue, located at the intersection of Ontario Street and Carnegie Avenue, was created by sculptor Henry Hering in 1930. It depicts two traffic officers guiding the flow of vehicles through the city, and serves as a reminder of the important role that traffic officers play in keeping our streets safe.
  2. The Soldiers and Sailors Monument, located in Public Square, honors the soldiers and sailors who fought in the Civil War. It was created by sculptor Levi T. Scofield and dedicated in 1894. The monument features a variety of sculptures and inscriptions that tell the story of the brave men and women who fought to preserve the Union.
  3. The Fountain of Eternal Life, was designed by Marshall Fredericks. It was Dedicated in May of 1964. The sculpture, which honors those who served, died, or were declared missing in military service, from Cleveland. It is situated on Veterans’ Memorial Plaza (formerly Mall A) as part of the Cleveland Mall.
